DIY Day: Halloween Paper Bag Decor

Looking for an easy fall decoration that costs very little? Use some paper gift bags and scrap fabric to decorate. Here’s what you need:

  • Scrap fabric
  • Paper gift bags
  • Fusible web
  • Buttons, ribbon, etc. for embellishment

You can either draw your own designs or copy them from a pattern book or coloring book. I traced the pictures onto the fusible web, then ironed it onto the backside of the fabric. Cut it out, and then iron them onto the paper bags. Embellish with buttons, raffia, ribbon, pen stitch marks, etc. Just have fun with it!

I put mine (either filled with tissue paper or without) up on cabinets as part of vignettes to add height. You could also use a cloth tote bag and make your child their own trick-or-treat bag. Then…think ahead for the holidays. These are great for delivering cookies and other goodies to neighbors and teachers decorated with holiday images instead.

Thanks for visiting me yesterday! Your bags are adorable - I'm going to have to tuck that away for the future when my son is older! What a fun project for kids! (And adults too, of course!) :)

Very cute idea! I've done gift bags that way before but never thought about using them to decorate. :)
