Tips for getting the best air popped popcorn:
Air popping popcorn is pretty simple but here are my best tips and tricks to make sure it comes out perfectly every single time!
- Use organic corn kernels. They pop up perfectly! The fiber stays intact as you digest it and that will make a big difference for your body.
- Use fresh kernels. If you’ve had some sitting around for a long time they’re not going to pop perfectly and they’ll probably end up tasting a bit stale anyway.
- Store the kernels in the freezer to keep them fresh if you won’t use them all in a short amount of time.
- Keep a close eye on the popper as it’s going so you can tell if it’s overfilled or not working properly. This also helps keep the popcorn from ending up all over the counter!
Is air popped popcorn healthy?
Yes! Air popped popcorn has about 31 calories per cup and it’s loaded with fiber which helps with everything from digestion to keeping you feeling full longer.
All that fiber also gives air popped popcorn a lower glycemic index than some other foods because it doesn’t cause large, quick blood sugar spikes.
Is this popcorn recipe healthy?
Adding savory seasonings to popcorn is a great way to add flavor and variety to your snacking. But be careful about adding too many calories!
This Everything Bagel Seasoning Popcorn Recipe is meant for 8 servings, so that makes each serving around 90 calories. It’s still a healthy snack!
Can I make air popped popcorn in the Instant Pot?
You can make popcorn in the Instant Pot but it’ won’t be air-popped. You have to add oil and butter to the bottom of the Instant Pot and it’s more like cooking popcorn on the stove.
Here are the instructions for making your popcorn in the Instant Pot if you’d like to prepare it that way instead. Note that you’ll have to adjust your nutritional info to account for the difference in popcorn cooking methods.
- Turn the Instant Pot to Saute and adjust the heat setting to Normal or More. You may have to try a batch on both heat settings to figure out what works best for your Pot.
- Add in 2 Tbsp coconut oil and 1 Tbsp butter. Use a virgin coconut oil as the smoke point (point at which the oil will start to burn) is higher and will make for a better taste overall.
- Add in your popcorn kernels when the oil is melted and the Instant Pot reads “Hot.”
- Place the clear glass lid on top of the Instant Pot so you can see what’s going on in there.
- Remove the popcorn once it has all popped and transfer it into your bowl for adding toppings. Keep an eye on it, because this only takes a few minutes!
That’s an easy way to use your Instant Pot to make popcorn in case you don’t have access to an air popper. They’re relatively inexpensive and once you start making this delicious savory popcorn recipe you’ll probably have use for one several times a week!
