Planning to hit the after-holiday sales? Target has their holiday items marked down to 50% off (some aisles to 75%), and most CVS and Walgreens stores have switched from 50 to 75% by now. Keep an eye out for these items:
Wrapping paper for the year's birthdays–You should be able to find solid colors like red, green, and gold, and even some prints that aren't particularly Christmas-y (I found this blue one with red and green gifts). At .25-.50/roll, they're perfect for wrapping birthday gifts in 2009.
Holiday-themed clothes–Check out Target, Old Navy and Children's Place for cute t-shirts in next year's sizes. Often you can pick up themed shirts and leggings for $1.50-3.00 as opposed to the $5-10 price you'll pay next December. You may even find photo-perfect dresses and vests if you'd like to spend a little more. You're more likely to find lower prices in stores than online.
Greeting Cards for next year–If you felt like you spent too much money (or energy) on your holiday cards this year, plan ahead for big savings next year. Purchase holiday cards this week at 75% off, and plan to print 4×6 photos to include inside, much cheaper than having photo cards printed. Plus, you can score free/low-cost prints in November or December to make the deal even sweeter.
Gifts for your “birthday closet”–During the great Amazon toy fever of December, there were lots of great toy deals to be had. Not all of them ended up under my tree; many are waiting for my twins' birthday in March or for other kids' birthday parties that I anticipate in these first few months of the year. You'll find great toy clearance deals at Target over the next few weeks, and Amazon will likely mark more down, mostly on Mondays and Fridays. Look ahead at your calendar to see what you might need, then pick up a few gifts to hide away until then.
Holiday-Themed foods & miscellany–Once Target marks their holiday aisles down to 75% off, look out for crazy moms like me snapping up Ritz Crackers (the ones shaped like snowflakes) at $1.00/box (don't forget this coupon for $1.00/2). You can also find holiday-themed Ziploc containers, paper towels, and other household goods on clearance. At CVS, look overhead on the tops of shelves for holiday gift sets (perfume, makeup, hair products) that you can break apart and use. Yesterday I found a zippered pack of 30 hair clips/barrettes in a cute case that will be just $1.49 after the discount goes to 75% off. That's a lot less than I usually pay for the girls' hair accessories.
What great deals have you found? I'd love to hear about them!
