With the cooler weather, it's a great time to encourage family togetherness and exercise by getting outdoors together. Since we're working on our Debt Snowball right now, we're not spending any money on entertainment and relying on FREE activities like these:
Hiking: With my twin girls now 5 1/2, it's a lot easier to go on family hikes. We're trying out state parks and local areas that are new to us. We pack our own snacks and drinks and enjoy looking for animal clues, talking about nature, and taking photos. Lots of national parks are free everyday, but those that aren't will be during Free Entrance Days on November 11-13th.
Yard Projects: We've cleaned up our yard and planted some fall mums, with help from the kids. They don't love weeding, but either do I! We focus on working as a team, and we observe worms and other critters as we work. We even found a mole hole in the backyard this weekend. Soon, we'll be able to rake leaves for a big jumping pile, and we have bulbs to plant for next spring.
Community Events: There are so many fall fairs and festivals happening here and probably where you live, too. Our local schools even have fun fairs and events that we can enjoy for free. If there's room in your budget, keep an eye out for discount tickets to local pumpkin patches and other events. We were able to enjoy a family trip to a local farm thanks to some referral credits I had earned from a daily deal site.
