Why visit theme parks as a family?
Does your family love thrill rides, seeing great shows and spending time together? Plan a family trip to a theme park near you. It's a great way to spend the day outside, you'll definitely get in your steps, and everyone will end up tired till the day is over…you're guaranteed a good nights rest!
Do any theme parks offer free admission for military family members?
Your military family can get free admission with these Military Appreciation Days happening at US theme parks all summer long. It's a wonderful program that offers families a chance to have some budget friendly fun!
Are there any new additions for summer 2020?
I update this post each year so that it stays relevant and so that everyone can continue to reap the benefits of this great program. Here are some of the changes that have happened over the last year!
Here in Virginia, our theme parks are no longer allowing backpacks or purses through the ride line at all. There are pay lockers at the entrance to each ride, and that can add up!
Your best bet is to revive the old trend: fanny packs. Most allow you to wear a fanny pack while on the roller coasters.
This is especially great for someone like me who needs my glasses off for the ride but needs them back to see my way out.
FREE Military Appreciation Days
All the following US theme parks offer completely FREE admission. You didn't read that wrong…completely free!
Read each offer carefully to see if the rest of the family also receives FREE admission. The fine print is important here because you don't want any surprises when purchasing tickets, etc.
Otherwise, you'll need to purchase military discount tickets for the rest of your party.
You may also want to consider buying group rate tickets if you're bringing 15+ people. That's not hard–just your family plus one or two others! Group rate tickets are a great way to save some extra money when heading to the theme parks this summer!
Parks are listed in alphabetical order.

How about Disney parks?
Note–Disney Parks do not offer free admission. Instead, they offer the Armed Forces Salute for discounted tickets. Read all the ins and outs of the Armed Forces Salute at Tales of One Mom's Mess.
