We have an early spring break this year, and we’re roadtripping from DC to Chicago. Meal planning around a vacation can be tricky. If you’re planning to be gone for a while, you want to clear out the refrigerator of perishables (which can mean some unusual meals right before leaving). But then you come home to an empty kitchen!
When I plan out the budget for a family trip, I always include a little extra to order grocery delivery for our arrival home. We’re always exhausted, overloaded with laundry, and need to get back on track quickly, so I schedule the order to arrive around 7:00am on our first morning back. That will take care of replacing our dairy and produce, and I’ve doubled some recipes over the past few weeks and frozen them, so we have some easy meals to prepare when we get home after our trip.
How do you plan meals around family vacations?
Moneywise Menu Plan – 3/13 to 3/26
Sunday: Chicken sausage sauteed with potatoes, red peppers, mushrooms. onions and peas
Meatless Monday: Scrambled eggs, hash browns and fruit
Tuesday: Mexican Meatloaf (I’m using ground turkey and my homemade taco seasoning) and salad
Wednesday: Oriental Chicken Salad
Thursday: Chicken, baked potatoes and green beans
Friday: Celebrating our twins’ birthday with their request: Pasta, Caesar salad & garlic bread.
Saturday: We’re roadtripping for spring break!
