Disclosure: I was provided with a credit towards new floors from Empire Today Store in exchange for an honest review. All words and opinions are my own.
As I mentioned in that post, we decided to redo the entire first floor of our townhouse with laminate flooring. It was a big change from the four different types of flooring it had before. Our goal was to have a single surface flowing from one room to the next. We chose a gorgeous dark laminate from Shaw. We'd had a great experience with the laminate that came with the house when we bought it, and we wanted the same durability and ease again.
I absolutely LOVE this dark shade of wood laminate with our paint colors, especially in the yellow dining room. We were happy to give up our toddler-stained carpet in the living room and hallway for laminate. We've been sweeping instead of vacuuming, and it's so easy to take care of.
The product we chose came in within the week, so we were able to schedule the installation just 10 days after I went into the store. The whole process went very smoothly.
You all know how much I hated my entryway–a mess of broken stone tiles, laminate in the dining room, and carpet going towards the living room. Look at it now!
The only thing I was a little disappointed with was that we couldn't have the flooring flush from the entryway through the dining room to the kitchen. When they pulled up the old flooring, there was a repaired subfloor that was slightly higher than the original. I'd known that was a possibility when I had the original estimate done, so it wasn't a surprise. I was thankful that they put a much smaller transition piece in there. Plus, it's now visually the same and it flows. After the third day or so, I forgot all about it and now it doesn't bother me at all!
As for the installation, I couldn't believe how quickly they did it. It took about 9 hours total, and that was including them having to stop mid-day so we could deal with a plumbing issue that was uncovered when they pulled up the old linoleum in the powder room. The whole thing went very smoothly, but boy, was it loud! I had scheduled the installation for the first day of summer break, so the kids were at home–big mistake! I should have sent them to someone else's house for the day. We hung out in the basement–mistake number two! It was so loud with all the demo and then pounding the new flooring in. I should have just planned to be home alone. Lesson learned.
