Popcorn recipes are great for snacking, an after school treat, gifting, and more. You can make a batch to share or keep it all for yourself, no judgement here. It’s so addicting you won’t want to give it up.
We loving using our air popper. It’s nothing fancy but once you start popping your own popcorn and topping it with your favorite seasonings you’ll never want to go back to the bagged stuff that ends up burnt half the time!
Another reason to love this recipe is that it has an added boost of protein from the nutritional yeast!
What is nutritional yeast?
Nutritional yeast is a yellow, flaky, food product that is often marketed as a substitute for cheese on vegan or dairy free diets! It’s a decativated yeast that is usually a from of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. It comes in different flake sizes and even granules or powder.
You can usually buy nutritional yeast in bulk at natural food stores you can also order it on Amazon or from Walmart. Bob’s Red Mill makes a variety that is usually easy to find in stores.
Nutritional yeast has a nutty flavor that is cheese-like. It’s a great cheese substitute that is low in fat, higher in protein and fiber, and it’s got no cholesterol so it’s a nice substitute for those watching their fat/saturated fat intake!
Can I use air popped popcorn?
You can use air popped or just follow the instructions and use bagged popcorn for the microwave. Either way it will turn out great. We love using our air popper but if you don’t have one or don’t like air popped popcorn you can use bagged microwave popcorn!
In the end it’s going to be covered in zesty ranch goodness so you can start from either point and get there.
