One of the best things about using the slow cooker to make anything is that it takes all the hard work out of the cooking process. You don’t have to spend hours in the kitchen, constantly checking the oven or the stove.

The crockpot really frees you up to do other things with your time while dinner or lunch is prepping all on its own in the kitchen! If you like to make hot meals all year long but hate heating up the whole house with the stove or the oven, you’ll find these crockpot ham recipes useful in that way too.

Do I need to cook ham for a long time?

There’s a common misconception that ham takes a long time to cook. Remember, ham is already cooked and cured in most cases. Check your tags but generally speaking ham just needs to be heated through and it’s ready to serve.

With that in mind, no you don’t need to cook ham for a whole day in order for it to be ready to eat! The slow cooker is a great option for ham because it doesn’t need any tending. You can put it in, set it, and walk away until it’s ready!

Won’t ham dry out in the crockpot?

Another common misconception is that cooking ham in a slow cooker will dry it out. I’ve had the completely opposite experience! Ham slow cooker recipes usually come out much more moist than oven varieties.

When you are cooking in a slow cooker you are essentially using steam to heat the food. It’s taking the liquid that you add and turning it into hot, moist, air.

So fear not! You won’t be drying out your ham in the Crockpot, you’ll be making it even more juicy and tender.
