What cuts of meat do I use for recipes using stew beef cubes in slow cookers?
When we talk about stew meat or beef cubes we’re talking about stew beef, chuck roast that is cut into cubes, or sometimes the store will just label them “beef cubes”.
Usually these are chuck roast cuts that are already hacked up into chunks that are about 1-2 inches square. It’s a great way to get uniform meat pieces that you don’t have to handle too much before cooking.
That said, if you have large cuts of beef on hand and want to make your own you can do that! Use chuck roasts or round roasts. These are usually cheaper cuts of beef because they are tougher cuts of meat.
You can get them and cut them up yourself or you can get them already cut. Check the meat case or ask the butcher for stew beef or stew cubes.
