Why should you learn how to make your own Italian seasoning?
My homemade Italian seasoning recipe is a really great alternative to buying packets of things like Good Seasons Italian Dressing Mix.
Another reason I love making these seasonings at home is to control the ingredients. You can make them exactly how you want them but you can also cut out things like preservatives and fillers that you just don’t need in your body or your seasonings.
If you have any allergies or food sensitivities you can easily cut out ingredients that might cause problems as well! If you have a seasoning blend like this Italian mix that you use on a regular basis it’s nice to make a large batch that you can keep on hand. No need to buy packets all the time!
What is included in Italian seasoning spices?
This recipe uses dried oregano, basil, parsley, thyme, rosemary, and marjoram! You can easily adjust the recipe to include other ingredients if you want or you can remove things that you think won’t work for you.
It’s easy to double the recipe or cut it in half if you need more or less. It’s great to customize and make as much as you’d like to have on hand.

How to make your own Italian seasoning:
I promise you are going to love how easy it is to make this homemade Italian seasoning recipe. Take a look at the two simple steps below and you’ll be thinking “why didn’t I try this sooner”! Making homemade seasonings really is a very simple process and they store well in a mason jar or other airtight container.
Combine all the ingredients in a dish or jar and mix well.
Use right away or store in the pantry for up to 1 year.
Tips for making this delicious Italian seasoning mix:
If you want a little kick added to your italian seasoning, add about ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes.
Want a garlic or onion flavor addition? Add a teaspoon each of garlic powder and onion powder.
If you struggle to find marjoram in your area, you can order it online or simply exclude it from the recipe altogether. No need to replace it, you’ll just end up with only 8 Tablespoons of seasoning instead. This won’t ruin your Italian seasoning recipe.
Use this the same exact way you would any Italian seasoning you buy from the store. If it calls for 1 Tablespoon of Italian seasoning in a recipe, use exactly 1 Tablespoon of this homemade seasoning. No changes needed.
If desired, you can also add ½ Tablespoon dried sage. This isn’t necessary, but a personal preference.
