All About Free Kids Workshops at Home Depot
Most Home Depot stores nationwide have a workshop room where they hold free events for kids and adults each month. It's just one of many ways to have free family fun!
Where do I find out about free Home Depot Workshops?
Head to the Home Depot website and put in your zip code to find a store near you. You'll see the workshops listed for the current month.
When are the Home Depot Kids Workshops?
Home Depot Kids Workshops are held on the first Saturday of each month from 9:00am – Noon. It is possible that your local store will have different hours, but this seems to be the norm.
Who are these free workshops for?
These free Home Depot workshops for kids are aimed at kids ages 5-12, though they do not check ages.
I took my twins as young as age 4 because I knew they had the dexterity to do that month's project. And older kids often need help from a parent or the instructor as well! Just make a judgment call based on your child.
What happens at a Home Depot Kids Workshop?
Kids are given a craft kit plus the space and tools to work on it. Keep that in mind so you don't show up too late in the session!
All kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
What kinds of projects are there?
Typically, the project is connected to the season or holiday coming up. But occasionally, it is something random–like a fire truck or race car.
How do we participate?
You do have to register ahead of time, because the store often runs out of kits before the session is over on Saturday morning. Mark your calendar to check your store's workshop listing a few weeks ahead so you don't miss it!
Keep in mind that ALL attendees need to be accompanied by a parent or adult at all times.
What is the next Home Depot Kids Workshop?
The February workshop is coming up on Saturday, February 1st. According to Home Depot's website:
Create a loving memory with your child at our Heart String Art Workshop. As you help your child piece together the symbol of Valentine's Day, they will develop hands-on skills by sanding, nailing, painting and more. Celebrate the moment as your child makes a unique keepsake.
Then, for the rest of the year, plan on these Free Kids Workshop dates:
- February 1st – Heart String Art
- March 7th – Binoculars
- April 4th
- May 2nd
- June 6th
- August 1st
- September 5th
- October 3rd
- November 7th
- December 5th
What if we can't make it to a free kids workshop?
Great news! You can also attend free building workshops at Lowe's Home Improvement Stores near you. There are lots of stores that offer free classes, crafts and workshops.
You can also purchase kids' wooden project kits at the store, but I find that they are overpriced. You are better off buying your own wooden craft kit online, like this one under $5.
