Let’s make a frugal craft for Halloween! Don’t let a tight budget keep you from celebrating this fun holiday with a little color in your home.

This Halloween Felt Flower Frame costs less than $2 and takes no time at all. Just find a FREE Halloween printable online–there are tons to choose from. I like:

Print your art to fit your frame. I used a 5×7 frame, but an 8×10 or larger would look great as well. Alternately, use a photo of your family in costume from last year.

  • Frame (mine was $1 at the Dollar Tree)
  • Felt in colors that coordinate with your print (.29/sheet at the craft store or Walmart)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Sharp scissors

Felt Flower Tutorial

To make the felt flowers, start by cutting your felt into a circle. Don’t worry about being perfect!

I love making these flowers because they’re so forgiving, and each one comes out differently (just like nature). Just freehand a circle, then cut that circle into a spiral shape; you’ll end up with a little circle in the center.

Start winding the spiral up, keeping one side of the flower flat. When you reach the end, put a little hot glue on the bottom of the flower to hold the layers in place, and glue down that little circle that was left when you cut the spiral. That flat spot is what you glue to the frame and helps it lay flat.

Add your print or photo to the frame, then place as many felt flowers along the frame as you’d like. I added a few green leaves as well.

There’s no right or wrong to this type of project–that’s why I love it for non-crafters. This is a great craft for Girl Scouts, MOMS Club, MOPS or any large group that needs an inexpensive project. Display your frame and enjoy!
