Easy Stovetop Ground Turkey Chili Recipe

Today I’m sharing my favorite turkey chili recipe. This is a simple turkey chili that the whole family loves. It’s more budget friendly and lower in fat too!

When the weather cools off I love to break out the chili recipes. There’s just something so hearty and delicious about turkey chili that makes it great for these chilly months ahead.

Another great thing about his tasty soup is that it’s budget friendly and family friendly. You can make a batch and eat leftovers for lunches and quick dinners all week long.

This recipe holds up really well in the fridge or even in the freezer so it can be made as a meal prep recipe and then you are all set for those busy weeknights or weekends when you don’t feel like cooking.

What do I need to make turkey black bean chili?

This simple turkey chili recipe is great for a lot of reasons, only one of which is the fact that it’s a little unique. We will be using olive oil, onions, ground turkey, minced garlic, chili powder, cumin, coriander, oregano, thyme, salt, black pepper, corn, black beans, diced tomatoes, and lime juice!

Whew, that’s a little more than our usual ingredient list but we need all those tasty flavors and seasonings to make up this excellent black bean and corn chili. The final result is worth it and most of those things you probably already have on hand or in the spice rack!

Is this a Crockpot chili recipe?

No, this particular recipe is not made in the slow cooker though I do think with some simple modifications you could make it that way if you really wanted to do so.

I would cook the meat with the oil/onions/garlic first and then put everything else into the slow cooker and let it simmer on low for several hours before serving.

Make sure to give everything a good stir before putting the lid on and letting it slow cooker for a bit!

How to make black bean and corn chili:

Here’s a step by step guide for making this really simple chili recipe. Nothing fancy needed to make this one happen. You’ll love the ease of making this one and your family will devour the tasty final result without complaint…it’s a real winner in our house!

Add the oil to a large stockpot and place over medium heat.

Add the onions and ground turkey to the pot and cook for 5 minutes, or until the onions begin to turn translucent and the turkey is no longer pink.

Stir in the garlic, chili powder, cumin, coriander, oregano, thyme, salt, and pepper.

Stir in the corn, black beans, and diced tomatoes.

Turn the chili down to low, and simmer for 20-30 minutes.

Turn the heat off, and stir in the lime juice.

Serve immediately.

When the chili is done cooking you’ll want to top it with some extras…it’s the best part of making chili!

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 cup onion - chopped
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 Tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1/2 Tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 Tablespoon cumin
  • 1 Tablespoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 Tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 Tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 Tablespoon salt
  • 1/2 Tablespoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 can whole kernel corn - drained
  • 1 can black beans - drained and rinsed
  • 2 cans diced tomatoes (chili ready)
  • 1/2 Tablespoon lime juice

Instructions

  1. Add the oil to a large stockpot and place over medium heat.
