The fall season offers numerous opportunities for family bonding. From playing in leaf piles to picking apples and carving pumpkins, there are countless activities to bring everyone closer together.
Why do an outdoor Halloween hunt?
Our scavenger hunt encourages physical activity for both kids and adults, especially important as we head into colder weather.
Nature has a calming effect, reducing stress and promoting mental well-being. Spending time outdoors can be a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
With an outdoor Halloween scavenger hunt, the whole family can enjoy the nice fall weather while looking for decorations on the list. It gives the youngest something to focus on, the big kids something to read, and makes getting some exercise more fun.
How to make this scavenger hunt fun?
Making a scavenger hunt more fun is all about creativity, engagement, and tailoring it to the ages of the participants. Here are some ways to add excitement and enjoyment to your scavenger hunt:
- Give everyone the chance to win a prize. It can be choosing the movie for the night, picking takeout options, or Halloween treats!
- Set a time limit to complete the Halloween hunt. Adding a sense of urgency can make it more thrilling.
- With teens or adults, have them use their phones to capture each item on the list.
- If you want to make it even more fun you can add some Halloween treats at some of the scavenger hunt locations or “finds.”
- With older kids, organize a nighttime scavenger hunt with flashlights. This adds a little mystery and adventure!
- You can also make it a friendly competition. Either make teams among your family, or share with friends in your neighborhood.
Printable Halloween Scavenger Hunt
I like to keep white cardstock on hand for printing games and activities like this outdoor Halloween hunt. Cardstock is thicker than regular printer paper, so it holds up for a trip around the neighborhood and being passed around between siblings.
If you want to print this one on regular paper you can, we just like to use cardstock or heavier paper so that it holds up well during the chaos of searching, crossing things off, etc.
The link to the full sized printable is below, super easy. Just click on the image, then print as many copies as you like.
This scavenger hunt printable is just 1 page. Be sure to print more than one if you’re doing a competition. Everyone will need their own so they can hunt down all of the Halloween scavenger hunt items on the list.
My printable Halloween hunt is great for fun during the best time of year…spooky season! This is a free way to have a great time with your kids. If your trick or treating options are cancelled or limited this year you can also make this into a fun activity that can end with some treats!
Tired of buying printer ink? I switched to HP Instant Ink two years ago and love it! I’m spending less than ever, and I don’t have to think about it any more (that’s priceless).
