Dump cake might sound unappealing but the title refers more to the process of making the cake than the end results. We’re not mixing anything up, we don’t have to follow the directions on the back of the box, it’s a dump and go situation here.

Keep in mind that for dump cake recipes (including this recipe for blueberry dump cake) you need to follow the ingredients and directions list in the posts and not on the boxes of cake. It seems unusual, I know, but trust me it works out fine in the end.

Essentially we will be layering wet and dry ingredients so that as the dump cake bakes it can do all the necessary dump cake magic in the oven and come out perfectly.

A few things to keep in mind: keep your layers even whenever possible and be prepared to serve this one up in a messy little heap. Dump cakes do not get served like a fancy wedding cake!

What do I need to make this dump cake using blueberry pie filling and cake mix?

A simple and delicious dump cake, perfect for National Blueberry Month in July. This 3 ingredients cake takes just 5 minutes to prep, so it’s a simple dessert for any occasion.

You will need yellow cake mix, blueberry canned pie filling, and butter…that’s all it takes if you can believe it.

How to make blueberry dump cake with canned pie filling:

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Pour the blueberry pie filling into the bottom of a 9×13” cake pan. Spread to make an even layer.

Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the pie filling.

Cut the butter into 12 equal pieces.

Arrange the butter on top of the dry cake mix.

Bake for 60-70 minutes. Cake is done once all of the dry cake mix has turned golden.

Serve warm, and top with whipped cream or ice cream, if desired. I highly recommend it!

Notes for making the perfect dump cake recipes:

Baking time may vary by oven. When making dump cakes, I tend to set my timer for 50 minutes to check it, and determine how much longer it needs to bake. 

You can refrigerate any leftovers and enjoy them later if needed!
