What are the rules of charades?
Charades is a classic game. It’s pretty simple which is nice since no one wants to do much thinking during the holidays, right?!
The simplest description I can give of the rules of charades is that you split into teams and one at a time a member of your team tries to act out a phrase or common item without speaking. You are not allowed to talk at all while acting out the clue.
The point of the game is that your team has to guess the phrase as quickly as possible. You earn a point for each clue your team is able to correctly guess within the time limit, usually a minute or two.
Then the next team will go and their fellow team members must guess while one of them acts out random clues. The process goes back and forth like this until all the clues are gone or until someone reaches the amount of points set for the “winner”!
The main rule is that there is no talking. You can also play as individuals where everyone keeps their own points for the clues that they are able to guess. In that case you just want make sure that everyone gets to take a turn acting out clues!

Why are some of these clues pictures?
I’ve included some picture clues on this printable Thanksgiving game so that everyone can play, even your tiny participants!
If you have kids who want to play that can’t read, let them choose from the photo clues when it is their turn to act.
Want to include more photo clues? You can just print out pictures of any of the other words to include in the bowl for your younger players!
